Below the city of New New York, in the mirky, polluted Sewers, live a race of hideous Mutants. Appearances aside, they're mostly decent people, if a little odd. It is unknown how long they have dwelled in the sewers, but it has been long enough for them to build a city and a semblance of civilization with objects from the surface which were flushed away. As of September of 3010, the Sewer Mutants are considered regular Earthicans.
Culture
The Sewer Mutants have their own library (consisting of "nothing but crumpled porno and Ayn Rand") and their own religion, which involves worshiping an unexploded nuclear bomb, but according to Vyolet "nobody's that observant. It's mainly a Christmas and Easter thing." They have their own civil organizations such as doctors, commerce, cafes and schools and even their own university, which is financed by the United Mutant Scholarship Fund. The Mutants are also democratically governed by a Supreme Mutant who is elected every four years.
Racial Abilities
Members of the species seem to be impervious to many toxins and radiation such as the Lake Mutagenic, or at least they can't be mutated again once they are mutated. There are probably a few hundred of them, each with his/her very own unique mutation. Extra or missing appendages or organs mostly work.
Revolting
The Sewers Mutants were hidden from Humans by the government until September of 3010, when Mayor Poopenmeyer pronounced them free to walk on the surface. Prior to this declaration, the only condition for a mutant to do so was to obtain a one-day-surface permit from Citihall, but as there was nearly no contact between Humans and Mutants, it was nearly impossible for them to leave the Sewers. Turanga Leela and Philip J. Fry led the Devolution Revolution along with an enormous army of Sewer Mutants to the surface and convinced Mrs. Astor, a very wealthy and powerful old lady, who then talked the Mayor into recognising the Mutants' rights.

Additional Info
Trivia
- Vyolet says "Christmas" instead of "Xmas", which is the correct future pronouncation, so it can be assumed they left Humanity before 2443 and the second coming of Jesus.
Appearances
- This deals with appearances of sewer mutants that are not Turanga Leela, as it would then have been every episode, comic and film.
